Kanu Hawaii is partnering with HECO to find 55 homes on Oahu that are interested in joining a pilot program to help the island use more renewable energy like solar and wind power. The program is slated to last one year with no charge to participate. Participants will get and own a new, professionally installed  80-gallon high-efficiency water heater as well as one year of free home Internet. These smart water heaters are designed to heat water first when there is excess wind power, but are also computer controlled to make sure families have all the hot water they need. Participation will help HECO and other utilities better utilize renewable energy. Qualifications include having an existing electric water heater of at least  40-gallons and at least three people in the household. Sign up form is at http://bit.ly/KanuHeaters.
